Functional and Aesthetic

The first area that draws attention and importance in the human body is the face. In particular, having a smooth nose structure is an aesthetic complement to the face. Therefore, the healthier the nose is structurally and functionally, the better the face shape will look. Of course, apart from the expression that the nose adds to the face, making a quality breathing, sterilizing and humidifying the inhaled air are other important criteria. If there is a deformity in the nose, the person may have trouble breathing. This can cause many problems, from sleep disorders to psychological problems.

Today, many people resort to some surgical operations because they complain about their appearance or functionality. However, it is very important to inform the patient in detail about this before the functional and aesthetic surgeries for the nose and to plan the desired revision together with the patient.

Types of surgery

Operations in which the nose is functionally and aesthetically revised are divided into 2 groups. The first of these is rhinoplasty to improve the aesthetic appearance of the nose, and the other is functional septorhinoplasty.

The aim of rhinoplasty surgery is to eliminate deformities in the nose. The structural defect in the patient’s nose may be congenital or may have occurred after an accident or trauma. Before this operation is performed on the patient, the ratio of the structure of the nose to the face is evaluated. Since the nose cannot be handled independently of the face area, it is essential to plan the size of the nose, the height of the nose tip, the nose-lip and nose-forehead angle in accordance with the face. The result to be achieved in rhinoplasty is that it is suitable for the face. For this reason, it is best to create a nose suitable for the facial anatomy instead of the patient’s dream nose. It should not be forgotten that aesthetic operations should be performed in a way that adapts to the patient’s face, is not exaggerated, and most importantly, does not give the appearance of intervention.

Septorhinoplasty operations are performed to remove nasal bone curvatures, nasal stenosis, nasal concha enlargement and resulting nasal congestion. The desired result in this operation is to relieve the nasal congestion present in the patient and to restore a healthy breathing. Of course, in this application, the nose should be compatible with the face and other parts. Septorhinoplasty surgeries can be performed alone or in conjunction with rhinoplasty surgeries. Thus, the patient can get rid of both aesthetic concerns and intranasal problems. In addition, thanks to this operation, if the nostrils are too wide, they can be narrowed or the distance between the nose and the upper lip can be changed. In fact, if the bones on the back of the nose are very protruding, they can be taken during surgery and revised. Congenital or accidental curvatures can be corrected in septorhinoplasty, just as in rhinoplasty.
